¡°During our research, we initially focused on architectural and geographic diversity; we also wanted to make sure we included some smaller towns/smaller stations,¡± says Derry Noyes, the Postal Service art director. ¡°Another criterion on our list was stations that people could go and visit.? Over the course of our search, we began focusing on the more historic stations, and as it turns out, all five of the stations honored on the stamps are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. ¡ Three of the stations ended up being in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic, but we were able to keep a variety of styles and sizes.
